Background into Lilliebridge
The program was created from my understanding by the Lilliebridge family which includes; Ernie Lillibridge Sr., Ernie Lilliebridge JR and Eric Lilliebridge. This family of lifters have dominated both raw and geared lifting for many years and established quite a reputation. This program is not one of my favorites, I found a lot wrong with the Lillibridge Method program.
Ernie Sr. Lillibridge
Ernie Sr. started powerlifting competitively in 1986 at the age of 14. Sr. Lilliebridge is very well known and respected coach in the powerlifting world having 28 years of competing in over 100 meet, held numerous national records in federations such as; AAPF, APF, UPA, SPF, USAPL, WUAP, etc. By scanning the open powerlifting website Ernie Sr. profile you can see he dominates in federations with the below as his current PB’s:
Squat | Bench | Deadlift | Total | Dots | |
Raw | 600.7 | 518.1 | 777.1 | 1796.7 | 450.91 |
Wraps | 862 | 2099.9 | 525.53 | ||
Single | 672.4 | 474 | 672.4 | 1818.8 | 420.82 |
Multi | 903.9 | 606.2 | 777.1 | 2287.3 | 577.30 |
Ernie Lilliebridge Jr
Ernie Jr. one of the two sons of Sr. and is also a record holding powerlifter in multiple federations. When scanning his openpowerlifting.org profile you can see its mostly first place finishes, some second and third places finishes. Just like his father he competes in many federations such as; USPC, XPC, UPA, APF, WUAP, RUPC, and many more. He does not compete in any drug tested federations from my analysis, however, I might be wrong.
Ernie Jr. Personal Bests

---|---|---|---|---|---|
Raw | 551.1 | 457.4 | 810 | 1620.4 | 435.32 |

Multi | 744 | 545.6 | 644.8 | 1851.8 | 519.07 |
Eric Lillibridge
Eric is probably the better known Lillibridge family member. He is insanely strong – next level.
Eric holds holds the all-time world record total in the 140-kilogram weight class with knee wraps, lifting a massive 1,115 kilograms (2,458.2 pounds), set on July 16, 2016, at the United Powerlifting Association (UPA) Iron Battle on the Mississippi. He is well known for his incredible squat strength, in November of 2020 he posted to his Instagram account a new PB squat with knee wraps of 483.5kg (1,066 lbs).
From the openpowerlifting.org website profile on Eric the below are his personal bests:
Equip | Squat | Bench | Deadlift | Total | Dots |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Raw | 920.4 | 551.1 | 903.9 | 2369.9 | 590.55 |
Wraps | 1052.7 | 2458.1 | 612.28 | ||
Multi | 722 | 501.5 | 755 | 1851.8 | 489.51 |
Of the 53 recorded results starting in 2004 only 9 of those events he didn’t finish first with two being disqualifications. He competes in a number of federations both raw and geared.
Program Pro’s and Con’s Table
Pro’s | Con’s |
An ideal program for someone knew to conjugate training. | Terrible volume and frequency – lacks massively!! |
It has the option of being run for a meet or off-season to achieve a gym personal best. | Too much accessory work and not enough main lift training. |
Includes some degree of variation (pause, deadlift stop, speed pulls, bench block press). | An advanced lifter will struggle to make any sizable strength adaption. |
You train at maximal and sub-maximal ranges weekly. | You press just once a week for NO volume (3×1 or 1 set of max reps) |
Its REALLY easy to use. | It’s really easy, bordering on boring. |
